Buena
Park Downtown Mall
recently hosted
Anaheim's Schweitzer
Elementary School's
Second Annual "Blankets
of Hope," which is part
of the "Soldiers' Angels
Organization."
Schweitzer’s
second-grade teacher
Lori Diaz started the
blanket project last
year. “Every blanket is
a classroom project and
every child has a square
on the quilt,” Diaz
said. “This year, other
schools have joined
Schweitzer; they include
Walt Disney, Salk,
Walter and Baden-Powell
elementary schools.”
Blankets of Hope is a
project of Soldiers'
Angels, supported by a
dedicated team of
“Angels” working daily
to create homemade
blankets with beautiful
artwork. The artwork
includes pins, buttons,
drawings and messages of
hope, support and cheer
for U.S. soldiers, said
guest speaker Anita
Dice, Area Regional
Community Team Leader
for the Soldiers’
Angels.
The blankets are
created to provide hope
and comfort to wounded
soldiers during one of
the most difficult and
vulnerable times of
their lives, Anita said.
“Blankets of Hope is
part of our First
Response Backpacks being
sent to Combat Support
Hospitals, major medical
facilities in Germany
and to some hospitals
here at home,” Anita
said. “Today, we have
even more new Soldiers’
Angels from Schweitzer
Elementary School; we
are very proud of their
support and thank them
from the bottom of our
hearts.”
