About the Program

Walk Our Way “W.O.W.” is a walking program in conjunction with Anaheim Memorial Medical Center designed for individuals to better their health in a safe, climatized environment. Members progress at their own pace while enjoying the camaraderie of fellow walking members.
 
To join the Walk Our Way program, simply stop by the customer service center in Buena Park Downtown and pick up a mileage card. Then drop your completed card along with name, address and phone number into the box located at the customer service center in the mall. It’s free, easy and convenient!

Keeping Track
Walking either the upper or lower level of the mall equals ˝ mile, or one mile every time you walk both levels. Walkers should record their distance walked on the mileage card provided at the Customer Service Center. One card totals 50 miles. Be sure to periodically turn in your signed mileage cards at the Customer Service Center for proper credit.

Getting Started
Before starting any regular exercise program, check with your physician. Once you are ready, all you need is a good pair of walking shoes!

We encourage you to take your pulse prior to walking, during exercise and after finishing your walk. The two easiest places to take your pulse are your wrist or neck. Using the tips of your middle and index fingers count your pulse for six seconds then add a zero to find the number of heartbeats per minute. Your maximum heart rate is determined by subtracting your age from 220. Your working heart rate should be 60-80% of your maximum heart rate.

For those just starting, you should be at 60% of your maximum heart rate.

Example:

220 – your age x .80 = Maximum Working Heart Rate
220 – your age x .60 = Beginner’s Maximum Working Heart Rate
