Snow Bunny Style

Chalet chic…

Clothes designed for snow sports are anything but fashionable. Think: giant galoshes, padded pants, and (un)sexy thermal underwear. It’s what is worn après-ski (after a day on the slopes) that has become a fashion trend in itself. Even if Aspen or Vail aren’t part of your holiday plans, you can still show off snow bunny style with these tips.

Cozy Capes

Curling up by the fire, hot toddy in hand, calls for a chunky, knitted topper. But while you have dozens of sweaters, none rival the snug-as-a-bug feeling that a poncho provides. A turtleneck number will be warmer still, while a fringed style stays on trend. If you want to add a little edge, opt for a poncho with an asymmetrical zipper or leather trim. But if you’re looking to out-chic the chalet, nothing beats a cashmere cape with a faux fur trim. And underneath? Silk joggers, of course.

Fair Isle Prints

Fair Isle prints are classic chalet style. But instead of donning the proverbial Fair Isle sweater, try on an oversized sweater dress, cinched at the waist. If you’re more of a monochrome kind of girl, a pair of Fair Isle-printed, velveteen leggings, knee-high socks or a knit scarf are subtler ways to rock your ski lodge style.

Metallic Puffer

For après-ski activities taking place outdoors, don a jacket that is at once warm and stylish. Rather than getting lost inside a bulky parka, a shiny silk bomber in festive colors like white, silver, gold or even glossy black will turn heads. As for cold-weather accessories, oversized shades will protect your eyes almost as well as goggles, while a colorful pom-pom beanie and shearling-lined mittens add the finishing touches.

All of the above notwithstanding, if you plan on actually skiing, designers have created sleek, slim-fitting helmets. Just beware of hat hair!
